ロサンゼルスを拠点に活動するアーティスト、Matthew Millerは、その伝統的な技法を現代に引き継ぎ、第二次世界大戦期のチェーンステッチミシンを使って創作を行っています。


彼の作品は、手刺繍による自由な描写とタイポグラフィを通して、ヴィンテージの美学を現代に再解釈するもの。
タトゥー、音楽、カートゥーンキャラクター、ロサンゼルスのカルチャーなど多様なモチーフを組み合わせ、クラシックな手仕事を新たな文脈へと昇華させています。

そのスタイルは、アメリカ西海岸のカルチャーとクラフトマンシップをミックスした刺繍表現として、彼独自のスタイル “Matthewism（マシューイズム）” を体現しています。

A thick Japanese-made No. 6 canvas tote bag features a print based on ballpoint pen drawings by artist Matthew Miller.

The print recreates the brushstrokes as if drawn directly by the artist himself. The design incorporates motifs inspired by the atmosphere of the city where he grew up and his childhood aspirations.

His style embodies his unique “Matthewism”—an embroidery expression blending West Coast culture and craftsmanship.
